Thanks to Boeing’s...um ...”unintended misfortune” with the 737Max, there have been layoffs and positions eliminated due to a decrease in production for their Tier 1 suppliers.
Unfortunately I was one of them today.
I apologise to all in advance because my emotions may get the better of me until I can find new employment. Not only did I enjoy the company that I worked for, but I really enjoyed the people I worked with. So this is a hard pill to swallow right now.
...5+ years...gone.
I’ll be around, but it will most likely be sporadic (and hopefully not off the wall batshit) for a while as I obviously need to get it together.

I’m so sorry, man. Of course you know you can always come here to rant.
When you say layoff, does that mean realistic hope for coming back, or is it definitely time for a new career path?

Damn, that sucks man.
The thing that pisses me off about this situation is that Boeing could have prevented most of this. If they were just more open and honest about the airplane from the start, and the problems it was having. When given the choice between meeting a production deadline and not having the planes fall out of the sky, it shouldn’t be a hard decision.
I hope you land on your feet and find an even better, more fulfilling job.

Losing a job almost always sucks. I’ve lost enough of them to know. It can take a bit of creativity and risk to find the next one. I hope you find what you need for your next step.

Ouch. Yeah 10% of our business is a niche product we sell to an aviation supplier and they just rolled back their projections for the year by a decent chunk.

Take some time to recover (I bet there was burnout, too) and refresh, you deserve it. I hope a layoff means severance and UI, and you can weather this just fine.
Just think of how the overpaid suits who enabled this shitshow will suffer from it. Oh, wait, don’t. I don’t know if Boeing is what it used to be, or at least what it was known for.

Is there any chance of being called back once production resumes? Though I understand completely if you can't just wait around for that

Indeed, zip recruiter, and linkedin are great resources for finding jobs. I’ve been in your position and it sucks, it lead to major life changes, but I’m doing alright now. And I’m at a better job as well.

Meanwhile even missing the estimated EPS, Boeing stock rallies and is up $7, so shareholders are happy.

I know a few folks who work for Boeing... so far they’re safe, but I worry for them.
Go apply for unemployment and take some time for yourself before jumping back into the job search. My brother in law hates his job, hates the field he’s in and is miserable all the time. He recently went just over a year without finding a new contract, and the whole time he was out of work he was just as miserable and depressed because he couldn’t do the thing that makes him miserable and depressed... and his wife makes big bucks, so they weren’t even financially strained.
When I left the military I quickly took a shitty job I hated because I was too proud to apply for unemployment. I had a miserable couple of years working in a soul crushing warehouse.
Even if you loved your job, still take some time for yourself if finances allow and choose your next move carefully.
